袋井市上山梨地区（6自治会）で、毎年7月中旬の3日間に渡り行われる山梨祇園祭りは、古来より山名神社祭祀「祇園祭り」として行われています。

また、御霊信仰と水の霊力によって「けがれ」を洗い流す「禊（みそぎ）」と融合が見られ、農村の虫の害や災いを追い払う祭事として行われています。

山名神社から若宮八幡宮を往復する神輿の渡御と還御、威勢のよいお囃子や豪華絢爛な屋台、格式高い神事、そして風情ある街並みと屋台との一体感など、見応えのあるお祭りです。
